Lighthouse Gin and Old Mout Cider feature in UK

Lighthouse Gin, specially imported from New Zealand, revealed as Craft Gin Club’s October Gin of the Month

● New Zealand’s Lighthouse Gin took six weeks to cross the ocean, destined for Craft Gin Club members across the UK

● Classic botanical blend includes local New Zealand botanicals, like hand-peeled Yen Ben Lemons

● October Gin of the Month box packed with treats including Willie’s Cacao and Old Mout Cider, along with information on how to join the fight to save the iconic kiwi bird

After six weeks spent crossing the ocean, bottles of New Zealand’s Lighthouse Gin are arriving with Craft Gin Club members across the UK. Selected as October’s Gin of the Month for its classic flavour profile and impeccable quality, Lighthouse Gin is handmade in Martinborough, New Zealand, on a winery known for its Pinot Noir grapes.

Lighthouse Gin is handmade by head distiller Rachel Hall , using a recipe developed by her longtime mentor, Neil Catherall, who has since retired. She still does everything from peeling the lemons and oranges to bottling and packing by hand.

Lighthouse Gin takes its name from the Palliser Lighthouse, a distinctive, red-and-white striped lighthouse perched on the rocks overlooking the Southern Sea. Designed and built in Birmingham, it was hauled up the side of the cliffs and reassembled on the remote site.

As Rachel says:

“The craftsmanship of the Cape Palliser Lighthouse is amazing -- everything slots together perfectly. You can look up at the windows at the see that each pane is marked by a number, and they had to align everything just right. That’s what we aspire to be: handcrafted, everything done the proper way, never cutting corners.”

Lighthouse Gin is joined in October’s Gin of the Month Box by Strawberry & Pomegranate Old Mout Cider. Inspired by the adventurous spirit of New Zealanders, Old Mout is on a quest to save the iconic kiwi bird. Partnering with Operation Kiwis for Kiwi Trust, their Operation Nest Egg is estimated to increase the odds of a kiwi surviving to adulthood from one in 20 to one in 13.

As Emma Sherwood Smith of Old Mout says: “Each kiwi we save could live for up to 50 years, and lay as many as 100 eggs -- just imagine the impact that will have on the endangered population!”

Willies Cacao Sea Flakes Milk Chocolate, Lamb & Watt Basil Tonic, Smoked Chipotle Chili Kent Crisps and a glossy edition of Ginned! Magazine , the exclusive Craft Gin Club magazine, complete October’s voyage of discovery.

Jon Hulme, co-founder and managing director of Craft Gin Club, says:

“We go to the ends of the earth to source the world’s best gin for our members, but this month we’ve travelled further than ever before to bring back New Zealand’s amazing Lighthouse Gin. The journey was worth it: with a slice of lemon, a premium tonic and lots of ice, this gin is sheer perfection.”

John Burke, co-founder and commercial director of Craft Gin Club, says:

“Our members will truly be on a voyage of discovery this month - and, through our partnership with Old Mout Cider, we hope that we can also do our part to support their admirable efforts to support kiwi bird population growth. It’s going to be a great month!”
