Takeaway food and tomato prices rose in April, but chicken was the cheapest it has been in over 10 years, Stats NZ said today. Overall, food prices remained steady (up 0.1 percent) in April. Cadbury factory shuts this week after 150 years of production at site

Production at the Cadbury factory in Dunedin will end on Friday bringing to a close 150 years of manufacturing at the site. A spokesman for Mondelez, which owns Cadbury, said final production would take place on Friday, with some of the team members finishing up then and others coming back to continue to work on decommissioning the site. Meat and poultry lead 0.5 percent monthly fall in prices

Lower meat and poultry prices led the 0.5 percent fall in February 2018 food prices, Stats NZ said today. Beef prices fell 4.4 percent, while chicken prices fell 3.4 percent. The average price for cheapest available chicken breast was $12.83 a kilo, down from $13.94 the previous month. Grocery food prices also fell in February 2018, down 0.7 percent, with lower prices for chocolate.
